Castro Valley hosted James Logan on an October evening in 2024. I photographed the first half of the game, split time between a Canon 300mm f2.8 and a Canon 70-200 f2.8 on my 5D Mark IV body. Lighting at most high school fields is bound to be spotty, the 50 yard line is the best illuminated section. At this field, the main entrance is situated at one end zone, so the light on that side was decent. The opposite end was much darker.
Castro Valley score first, but David Mercado returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to even the score. Running back Ayden McChristian rushed for 70 yards, and Danzel Mercado racked up 129 yards receiving with two touchdowns to lead Logan to a 39-7 victory.
