I recently completed a photography assignment for technology company Datology AI in Redwood City, where I created professional headshots and business portraits for members of the staff while also documenting the company’s business environment and business culture.
The assignment was designed to create a collection of professional images that could be used across multiple marketing and communication platforms. In addition to individual portraits, I photographed employees working together, interacting throughout the office, and going about their daily activities. The combination of headshots and environmental photography helped create a more complete visual representation of the company and the people behind it.
Creating Professional Headshots in a Portable Studio
For this assignment, I set up a portable photography studio inside one of the company’s conference rooms. Bringing the studio directly to the client made it possible to photograph multiple staff members efficiently without requiring employees to leave the office.
My portable studio setup included professional lighting and a carefully selected background designed to create consistent business portraits for the entire team. Working in a conference room also allowed me to create a comfortable, controlled environment where employees could step away briefly from their workday for their individual photography sessions.
Professional headshots are an important part of how a company presents its people. Whether used on a website, LinkedIn profile, company directory, press release, or marketing materials, consistent portraits help create a polished and unified visual identity.
Photographing the Business Environment and Culture
Beyond the individual headshots, I spent time documenting the company’s business environment. I photographed employees working at their desks, collaborating with colleagues, participating in meetings, and interacting throughout the office.
These photographs provided a more candid perspective on the workplace. While headshots introduce the individuals within an organization, environmental photography can help show how those individuals work together.
Capturing business culture is especially important for technology companies that want to communicate their values and personality. Images of real employees in authentic situations can help a company tell a more complete story to clients, potential employees, and other audiences.

As a photographer working throughout the Bay Area, I enjoy assignments that combine professional portraits with documentary-style workplace photography. Every company has its own visual identity, work environment, and culture, and I approach each assignment with the goal of creating images that reflect those differences.
