Another homage to someone who has passed away.
When I was a kid, I grew up listening to Bill King broadcasting Raider and Warrior games. He had a distinct gift in his use of language that endeared him to me and thousands of sports fans across Northern California and beyond. Not just knowledgeable in sports, he’s always come across as more of a renaissance man – well traveled, highly appreciative of art and literature, a jazz fan – in short somewhat ecclectic.
And oddly enough, his passing was very much like my dad’s in July. Both men from the midwest, relocating on the west coast after serving in WWII, apparently making it through a scheduled surgery, only to succumb in recovery.
Good bye Bill, it was great having you along all this time.
